When It Comes Down To It

When It Comes Down To It

WRITTEN BY: CAMERON BLAKE

We whisper huddled under blankets
“Our sleep is sounder by the stream”
You don’t belong here, but a series of choices
Have set you free

The landlord’s shaken by the picture
The hinges dangle from the screens
The garden’s plundered but the gate’s wide open for you and me

I’ve heard the rumors of the children
-trained as killers, hunting dreams
A one shot pistol that can drown out an ocean of memories

Is it fear when it comes down to it?
Draw me near and brush my hair
Dip your toes in the crystal fountain, where the fainting lilacs grow

I’ve caught a glimmer of the thunder
The peals of laughter and the screams
I see the beating of the palm tree branches, oh what a scene!

The night is over and the day breaks
The tundras and deserts and pastures now green
The heaven’s ceiling has been torn wide open
The blind can see, the beggars jump up from their knees

Is it fear when it comes down to it?
Draw me near and brush my hair
Dip your toes in the crystal fountain, where the fainting lilacs grow

I cannot speak, so tired, so tired.
We’ve reached the end, dear friends, dear friends
-so composed as I’m gambling for his clothes
The maples weep around the river bend

I cannot think. No thoughts, no thoughts
The blinds are pulled in empty rooms and empty lofts
So contained, the silence permeates our veins
as God and man unite to whisper life into the grave
